I found this when I was googling to see if there was any information about the script. This makes it sound even better than the initial press release. – Laura

Description

Story centers on a man who’s estranged from his family and receives word that his father has chosen to take his own life in less than 48 hours.

Plot outline

Jonathan returns home for the first time in 5 years. He returns in order to console his dying father, Robert, who wants nothing more than to be surrounded by his family before he asks his doctor to unplug his life support. Frustrated and saddened by the inevitable death of his father and confused by his broken relationships with his sister and ex-girlfriend, Jonathan must learn to cope, to mourn and to ask for forgiveness. In the midst of fixing relationships from his past, he also finds a kindred spirit in Meredith, a young girl of only 17 – who is dying of bone cancer. Though faced with scary future, Meredith is able to offer friendship that Jonathan stopped offering to his own family. Though torn apart by distance, Jonathan’s family must come together and move past their differences in order to console one another, grow individually and mourn the death of their beloved father.

This was translated by google translate by @kstewangel. I went through and made a few tweaks, but I’m not positive I made the right ones lol.  Le Monde also posted a slide show of the pictures of Garrett from the road trip and his screentest, complete with narration by Walter (in French). You can view that slide show HERE.

THE LAST TIME we saw them all three, two boys and a girl were on the porch of a plantation. They got into the Hudson in 1947 and disappeared under the trees of the avenue. It was September 2010, New Orleans, filming of On the Road had already lasted three months. They still remained the same, to travel from Mexico to San Francisco, via Canada .

A year and a half later, Garrett Hedlund , Sam Riley and Kristen Stewart found themselves in the harsh light of Los Angeles . This is the first meeting of the trio for months, yet it seems that filming has just finished . They escape from the studio, where they posed for photographer Steven Pan, to go smoke on the sidewalk. Their physical complicity is intact, the same as that bound them on the bench in the Hudson on American roads. Their way of speaking of the movie is not that of the actors constantly rehashing the same elements of language imposed by media coaches. In their stories, their thoughts, rather means the echoes of a shared experience that shaped them. Under the auspices of St. Jack Kerouac, edited by Walter Salles, they had another idea in the world of cinema .

May 23, they will be in Cannes for the world premiere of On the road , directed by Walter Salles , based on the novel by Jack Kerouac , the founding work of the Beat Generation . Brazilian director took over in 2004 of the inspired text of trips across the United States in the late 1940s, published in 1957. It took eight years to complete the film safely, without renouncing to anything, especially not to the three young actors whom he had chosen at the outset, although in the meantime one of them became a star.

For decades Hollywood wondered what faces might take Dean Moriarty, Sal Paradise and Marylou, the trio on the road , as Kerouac modeled from nature. Moriarty is Neal Cassady, the boy who had spent “a third of his youth in reform school, third in pool halls and third in public libraries”, as he likes to remind Walter Salles. Paradise is Kerouac himself, the immigrant Quebec, son of a laborer in Massachusetts. And Marylou is LuAnne Henderson , the girl who fled her family out of love for Cassady, and for freedom.

Yay! This sounds like a terrific part and the cast is fantastic. Congratulations, Garrett!! – Laura

Garrett Hedlund, Richard Jenkins, Jennifer Hudson, Terrence Howard, Amy Adams Cast In Andrew Levitas’ LULLABY

Garrett Hedlund (TRON: LEGACY, COUNTRY STRONG, and the upcoming ON THE ROAD and INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS), Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins (THE VISITOR), Jessica Brown Findlay (PBS’ “Downton Abbey”), Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson (DREAMGIRLS), Oscar nominee Terrence Howard and three-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams (THE FIGHTER) will star in acclaimed fine artist Andrew Levitas’ comedy/drama LULLABY. It was announced today by Mimi Steinbauer, President and CEO of Radiant Films International, and producers Andrea Stone-Brokaw of Ananta Productions and Cary Brokaw (THE PLAYER, SHORT CUTS, ANGELS IN AMERICA, CLOSER) of Avenue Pictures. Radiant Films will be offering the film to international buyers of the Cannes Film Market.

Levitas will direct the feature film from his own script which is set to start shooting in June 2012 in New York City. The Producers are in discussion with several domestic distributors but the North American rights have not been licensed.

Filled with considerable comedic beats, LULLABY explores the power of life, its transformative moments and reconnections between loved ones. Estranged from his family, Jonathan (Hedlund) receives word that his father, Robert (Jenkins), who has been fighting illness for over a decade has chosen to take himself off life support in less than forty-eight hours. What follows is an unexpected journey of love, laughter, and forgiveness.

“Andrea and Cary have assembled a truly stellar cast for this life affirming tale of family and love. And in Andrew Levitas’ visionary hands LULLABY will unquestionably be an exciting film” said Steinbauer.

“Andrew Levitas has written a remarkable script and created a story that is as funny as it is moving and a part of life that everyone can identify with.” said Stone-Brokaw and Brokaw.

Hedlund made his leading breakout role in Disney’s action blockbuster TRON: LEGACY opposite Jeff Bridges before starring in COUNTRY STRONG opposite Gwyneth Paltrow. He will next star in Walter Salles’ Cannes 2012 Official Selector ON THE ROAD, where he co-starred with Adams alongside Kristen Stewart, Kirsten Dunst and Viggo Mortensen and the Coen Brothers’ INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS opposite Carey Mulligan and Justin Timberlake, currently in post-production.

Rick at the Beat Handbook has just posted an interview with Gerry Nicosia, author of One and Only, the biography of Luanne Henderson (Marylou in On the Road). Gerry visited Montreal during the Beatnik Boot Camp that the cast participated in before filming. Make sure you check out Rick’s site to read the article. There are also a lot of pictures from the camp, including these of Garrett:

From screenslam.com:

ON THE ROAD MOVIE INTERVIEWS – Join us (ed – screenslam.com) next week from May 21 – May 25 for our  On the Road week. We’re giving you the exclusive look into our sit down interview with stars Kristen Stewert, Garrett Hedlund, and Sam Riley as they tell us about their newest movie On the Road, directed by Walter Salles. The cast tells you about their journey through connecting to their characters personality and the 70′s generation and culture they immersed themselves in. We will be releasing footage to you as part of a 5 day interview series every day, starting Monday, May 21.

“I didn’t want to do anything after this. It raises the bar for, of course the work that you do, but just the experiences that you want to have and why you do the work you do.” – Kristen Stewert

“I don’t think there’s a director that could have done it the same way Walter did it. He was so immersed, I think he invested so much of himself and his life into understanding these people.” – Sam Riley

From Collider:

Adam Horowitz, Joseph Kosinkski, Edward Kitniss, Bruce Boxlietner – End of Line Club, SDCC 2010 – © Laura

After the experience of working on TRON Legacy, the movie did well and made money, and I hear that the toys and the merchandise also sold very well, but maybe it didn’t quite do well enough to get its own sequel, but it did well enough to get a cartoon series. Is that frustrating—

ADAM HOROWITZ: They are working on a sequel. Eddie and I aren’t writing it because of the show, but we’ve move to being co-producers on it—

EDWARD KITSIS: Dave DiGilio is currently writing the script, Joseph Kosinski is currently shooting Oblivion, but we’ve had a lot of meetings and conversations, and we’ve seen the first draft of the TRON sequel. Sometimes movies don’t happen as quickly as you want. Joe was always going to shoot Oblivion before that, and movies just work slower. Our goal is to get something going soon.

———————–

ed. – The fact there are new writers makes me more excited for the project. I thought the script was weak in parts and too simplistic with dialogue that sounded stilted, even when it wasn’t coming from a computer program. New writers, the fact the look of the world is established and doesn’t need to be created from scratch so that time can be focused elsewhere, more Bruce as Tron/Alan, and the possibility of Cillian Murphy’s Ed Dillinger as the villain … yeah, bring on TRON 3. – Laura

Walter Salles was in Paris today for the unveiling of the special exhibit of the Original Scroll of On the Road. Included in the exhibit is a new picture of Dean and Marylou.

A picture of a page from the script, one of the final moments. You’ll see it mentions a picture of Sal, Dean and Carlo and I think that’s the picture we posted earlier today (but don’t quote me on that lol).

Dean and Marylou’s marriage license

More pictures from the event under the cut and the Brazil On the Road Facebook page has tons more. The exhibit opens to the public tomorrow.
