Josh Dickey from Variety tweeted some cool info about On the Road today – it falls in line with what we’ve been assuming all along, but it is nice to see it confirmed by someone in the industry. Hopefully now that it’s finished, we’ll start to see more promos and information coming out and, of course, March is the date for that Trois Couleurs special OTR issue.

OTR is finished. Took 1 year to edit, and is very, very good. According to a discerning and in-the-know viewer, it’s so good that it would not be a stretch to see it open Cannes. Producers are thrilled with the result & eager to at least have it there.There were no problems w/ film at; just awaiting the right moment to show & actively start seeking distribution.And that’s all I know. (At least, that’s all I can tell you!) Hope it’s new to somebody; I don’t follow as close as some of you guys are.

Garrett attended the Sundance Film Festival for a couple of days. He was spotted at the premiere of Kirsten Dunst’s new movie, Bachelorette, a dark comedy about female friendships(a friend of mine saw it and she said it’s hilarious – definitely one to keep an eye out for). He was also scene attending several other events with Kirsten and friends.

There are a few pictures in the gallery (I seriously think he owns an invisibility cloak lol). This one is great.

And a fan met him yesterday while he was walking around Park City. Here’s her video:

My friend, Travis Nicholson, produced a short film that is screening at Sundance this weekend. Some of you may remember Travis from Country Strong; he appeared in a couple of scenes as a stagehand and he worked off screen as Garrett’s assistant and they’re still great friends in real life.

The film he produced is called The Arm and I just got done watching it and I loved it – it’s a very clever comment on how technology is changing the way we have relationships.

To keep up with social pressure in a technological world, Chance starts a texting relationship with Genevieve. But tragedy forces Chance to realize that he was never in a relationship at all.

Yahoo is having a contest for the short films showing at Sundance.

Watch nine of the Sundance short films, share them with friends, and vote for your favorite one below. The movie with the top votes will win the Yahoo! Audience Award and the filmmaker will receive $5,000 to continue their creative journey as storytellers.

I’ve been waiting for Prada to confirm this before posting it … Garrett is going to be one of the Hollywood actors walking the Prada catwalk in Milan today. The show is scheduled to start at 6pm CET in Italy. That is 12pm EST and the rest of the time zones can be figured out here. Basically, the show starts in 3 hours.

How was film ‘On The Road’?

TH: Yes. Walter Salle’ film. I play a saxophone player so I got to do something that I haven’t done cinematically. I play it in life but this time I was able to do it on film. I get to work with Garrett (Hedlund) again and he’s fantastic. I thought he was the younger version of Val Kilmer years ago. Watching him now after seeing him in ‘Country Strong,’ ‘Tron,’ his growth has been exponential.

Kerouac Goes To Cannes, and Other Beat News

1. After (seriously) 17 years of development, the major new Hollywood Walter Salles/Francis Ford Coppola film of On The Road is going to premiere on May 23, four months and twelve days from now, at the Cannes Film Festival in the French Riviera. I can’t believe the day is actually going to come.

I’m not sure what to expect from this film, but there’s no doubt that Jack Kerouac, a Breton Francophile, would have been pleased about a prestigious Cannes festival premiere. Very little is currently known about the film of On The Road, and only a single still image has been seen: the photo above, showing Kristen Stewart and Garrett Hedlund as Marylou and Dean Moriarty apparently in one of the movie’s big dance numbers. The image may give some idea of the director’s photographic style (muted colors, naturalistic setting, not bad so far), but there’s no word yet on what the entire film is like. I’m looking forward to seeing a preview trailer soon. Thanks to the Beat Museum in San Francisco (always the first place to check for news about this film) for the scoop about the opening at Cannes. (For the record, the news is still unconfirmed, but it’s true.)
